Known for her minimalist color field paintings informed by the interaction of color and the concept of simultaneous contrast, this selection of work furthers Pastine’s investigation of the perception of color in the context of light and space. Working in series is an essential aspect of Pastine’s creative process, focused on the austerity of the three complementary color systems which, although seemingly finite, access limitless possibility. Within these parameters, Pastine delves into the tensions that engage presence and absence, surface and depth, materiality and immateriality, the finite and the infinite.
