Matthew Hawtin is a British-born, Canadian-raised contemporary artist who studied Fine Arts at York University in Toronto.  His works reduce painting to its essential elements of line, color, surface, shape, and form.  Using irregular canvases and curved stretchers, Hawtin gives his paintings a sculptural quality that blends influences from Suprematism, design, and architecture.  His minimalist works serve as spaces for reflection, expressing the shifting thoughts and emotions of everyday life.
